Digital Site Response: The Urban Wild

The Urban Wild is a speculative response to the virality surrounding a specific portion of the pandemic in which animals began to return to urbanised areas within capital cities. As a global community desperate to see nature's resurgence, we responded with childish praise, awarding them with millions of likes and shares as well as various false recreations and ‘memes’ encouraging their return. Regardless of their honesty, we as a community found comfort in their familiarity. Unbeknownst to many, the familiarity came in the form of post-apocalyptic cinema tropes such as Planet of the Apes with streets filled of flourishing vegetation and wild animals roaming buildings.
The skateboard intends to ask questions how the urban youth may respond to the presence of animals in the future and how they may extend their hand in this new cross-species dialogue. The hoof prints acts as the means of communication and maintain the "presence" of animals in urban areas regardless of whether they continue to remain in the suburbs and cities.
